Jake Sullivan, U.S. National Security Advisor, held a call with the security chiefs of South Korea and Japan on the 17th (local time). He condemned North Korea’s launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), according to the White House.
The White House, in a recent statement, highlighted that in response to North Korea’s latest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test, National Security Advisor Sullivan engaged in discussions with South Korea’s Director of the National Security Office, Cho Tae Yong, and Japan’s National Security Secretariat Secretary General, Takeo Akiba. The talks revolved around a unanimous condemnation of the test, which they noted as a blatant breach of several United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
The White House also emphasized that “Mr. Sullivan reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to the defense of Japan and the ROK.”
Earlier, North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea late at night on the 17th Korean time, followed by a high-angle launch of an ICBM into the East Sea again on the morning of the 18th.
