Online Threat to Blow Up Yongsan Presidential Office Prompts Police Action

Over the weekend, a post threatening to blow up the Presidential Office in Yongsan surfaced online, prompting police to search for the author.

The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced on the 22nd that they received a report about a post on the online community DC Inside threatening to blow up the Presidential Office in Yongsan and stab President Yoon Suk Yeok and Lee Jae Myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, with a knife. The police have launched a preliminary investigation.

According to the police and other sources, a post appeared on DC Inside at around 12:30 a.m. that day stating, “I plan to blow up the Presidential Office in Yongsan and stab Yoon Seok Yeol and Lee Jae Myung with a knife at 11:59 a.m. on Saturday.” The post has since been deleted.

The police are considering applying threat charges and tracing the author based on the Internet Protocol (IP) address and other information.
