Concerns Over North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un’s Recent Statements
|
The government has expressed concern over North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s remarks at a plenary meeting late last year, stating that there is a high probability that North Korea will create tension on the Korean Peninsula in some way following his statement on “pacifying the entire territory of South Korea.”
An official from the Ministry of Unification met with reporters on the 2nd and said, “North Korea has emphasized a hostile relationship by mentioning the reorganization and reform of the Anti-South institutions, including the Front for the Unification of the Fatherland, with even stronger expressions, and the impossibility of discussing unification.”
An official stated that North Korea is ostensibly demonstrating its commitment to internal unity under the guise of bolstering military strength. Furthermore, the government vehemently denounces North Korea’s apparent hostility towards the international community, as evidenced by reports from the Workers’ Party Central Committee Plenary Meeting. These reports include continuous advancements in nuclear and missile capabilities and a significant shift in the anti-South stance.
He further stressed that the government is committed to managing inter-Korean relations on a principled basis. This approach includes decisively countering North Korea’s threats, grounded in the solid foundation of the Korea-U.S. alliance. Additionally, efforts will be intensified to enhance cooperation with the global community. The aim is to persuade North Korea to halt its nuclear missile development and human rights abuses, thereby steering the country towards denuclearization and improving the lives of its people.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared a fundamental shift in the Anti-South line by defining inter-Korean relations as “hostile relations between two countries” rather than kinship at the Workers’ Party Central Committee Plenary Meeting held on December 30.
North Korean authorities have hinted at the possibility of nuclear force provocations, but this is the first time that Kim Jong Un has directly expressed his territorial will, raising tensions in the international community. However, he is believed to focus on strengthening nuclear capabilities while maintaining the current stance until the U.S. elections in November.
