New information regarding the statement authored by the individual who attacked Lee Jae Myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, with a weapon has come to light.
On the 4th, JoongAng Ilbo reported, “The suspect, identified as Mr. Kim (67), wrote in his statement that his assault on Representative Lee was carried out with a ‘sense of historical mission.'”
“This marks the first official confirmation of Kim’s motives, as his reasons for the crime had previously remained unverified,” they added.
On the day when Mr. Kim was transferred from the detention center of Yeonje Police Station in Busan to the court, he told reporters asking about his motive for the crime, “I submitted an 8-page statement to the police. Please refer to that.”
Mr. Kim was also carrying the statement when he attacked Lee.
The Busan District Court issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Kim, saying, “Considering the details of the crime, the risk and seriousness of the crime, there is a risk of him fleeing.”
It has been revealed that Mr. Kim had meticulously planned the crime, which included scouting Representative Lee’s destinations in advance and altering the weapon.
On the 1st, he departed from his residence in Asan, Chungnam, taking the KTX train to Busan Station. Subsequently, he boarded another train to Ulsan Station and returned to Busan on the same day. During this trip, he visited locations near where Representative Lee was scheduled to visit the following day, including the Daehang Observatory in Gangseo-gu and the former residence of ex-President Moon Jae-in.
Then, on the 2nd, at approximately 10:29 am, he attacked by stabbing Representative Lee in the left side of his neck with the modified weapon at the Daehang Observatory, resulting in his immediate apprehension at the scene.
The police seized three computers, three mobile phones, office notebooks, knives, knife sharpeners, etc., from Mr. Kim’s home and office during their search and seizure.
