On the 8th, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) asserted that it shares the same view as the multiple international media reports claiming that Hamas is using weapons made in North Korea.
The Voice of America (VOA) previously reported on the 5th that Hamas is using weapons produced by North Korea, providing a photograph of a part of an F-7 rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher’s warhead that had Korean characters on it.
The NIS has confirmed VOA’s report and released an additional photograph of a warhead part bearing Korean markings. The NIS explained that the “Korean-marked warhead is a component of the F-7 rocket.”
Additionally, the NIS provided the media with a photograph highlighting the specific part under discussion.
Furthermore, the NIS stressed that it is “collecting and accumulating concrete evidence regarding the scale and timing of North Korea’s provision of weapons to groups such as Hamas.” However, providing more information is challenging due to source protection and diplomatic relations.
Regarding the briefing content of John Kirby, White House Strategic Communications Coordinator, that Russia used North Korean ballistic missiles in Ukraine, the NIS confirmed, “This announcement is a matter that the U.S. and South Korean authorities have been closely tracking.”
The statement pointed out that the exchange of ballistic missiles and shells between Russia and North Korea constitutes a breach of United Nations Security Council resolutions and poses a severe threat to the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula. It called for an immediate cessation of this trade.
