South Korea’s military power ranking has been revealed.
In these rankings, South Korea boasts stronger military capabilities than Japan, while North Korea pales in comparison.
The Yonhap News agency said on the late 19th that a report had been released showing South Korea’s military power to be the 5th strongest among other countries.
The report 2024 Global Firepower, published by a US-based think-tank, gave South Korea a 0.1416 point in the military power index, placing the country in the top 5 ranking among 145 surveyed countries.
The result is a further step upwards from last year’s top 6 ranking.
South Korea’s ranking in military power has been steadily rising since 2013, according to reports from Global Firepower. The country placed 9th highest in military scores in 2013 and jumped to 7th highest in 2014. In 2020, the number went up to the 6th highest and stayed there until last year.
Meanwhile, North Korea’s military might lag far behind South Korea’s.
While the country has been in the 34th ranking with a 0.5313 point index score, the number fell to 36th last year. In 2019, North Korea placed 18th but kept falling behind ever since.
The United States of America placed at the top of the rank in military power, with an index score of 0.0699, followed by Russia (0.0702), China (0.0706), and India (0.1023).
The United Kingdom of Britain and Japan fell lower in rank than South Korea, with index scores of 0.1443 and 0.1601, respectively.
Index scores given by Global Firepower work as follows: a more miniature score indicates greater military strength. Scores are made using results from more than 60 indices, including troop numbers, weapons, economic power, wartime potential mobility, defense budget amount, etc.
South Korea ranked 11th in the defense budget category.
