According to a recent report released by the U.S. military strength evaluation agency Global Firepower (GFP), South Korea’s military power is the 5th strongest in the world, while North Korea’s military power ranks 36th.
According to the ‘2024 Global Firepower’ report released by GFP, South Korea scored 0.1416 points in the military power evaluation index, ranking 5th among the 145 countries surveyed. This is a one-step rise from last year (6th place).
On the other hand, North Korea’s military power fell from 34th place last year to 36th place (evaluation index 0.5313). North Korea was ranked 18th in 2019, but its ranking has been continuously falling since then.
GFP’s military power evaluation index means the closer to 0, the stronger the military power. It is calculated using more than 60 individual indicators including not only the number of troops and weapons but also economic power, potential wartime manpower, and defense budget.
Meanwhile, the country with the strongest military was the United States (0.0699), followed by Russia (0.0702), China (0.0706), and India (0.1023). The UK (0.1443) and Japan (0.1601) ranked 6th and 7th respectively.
In terms of defense budget by country, South Korea ranked 11th and North Korea was 58th.
