Despite the UN Security Council’s sanctions against North Korea, Mercedes-Benz in Germany has investigated the entry route of a new Mercedes vehicle, suspected to be Kim Jong Un’s official car.
On the 19th (local time), the Mercedes German headquarters’ press room stated in response to a question from Voice of America (VOA), “Based on the information we have obtained, we are very thoroughly investigating the new photos.”
They also emphasized their commitment to adhering to regulations and ethical practices in all their business locations, firmly stating that they do not engage in business activities in North Korea.
They added, “Our company prohibits unauthorized third-party sales and sales of products outside of contract areas,” and “If a cooperative company violates sanctions against North Korea, we will take firm measures such as terminating transactions according to regulations.”
Previously, on the 15th, a scene of Kim getting out of a Mercedes SUV was captured in a documentary broadcast by North Korea’s Central TV.
The vehicle is a Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 model, which starts at a domestic price of 260 million won (approximately $200,000).
Also, at the end of last year, during the full Workers’ Party Central Committee meeting coverage, high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Kim Tok Hun, were seen riding in Mercedes’s top-class sedans.
The current UN Security Council’s sanctions against North Korea prohibit the export of not only luxury vehicles but also transportation means to North Korea. However, our country’s intelligence authorities estimate that the amount of luxury goods imported from Russia increased to millions of dollars last year alone.
