North Korea’s power industry is trying to restore the optimal performance of power generation equipment to remedy the poor power situation.
The Labor Newspaper reported on the 24th that “workers (executives) from the Ministry of Electric Power Industry are touring various power plants to conduct operations and commands to restore the optimal performance of power generation equipment by enhancing consultations with workers and technicians of the respective units at the production site.”
The Supung Power Plant is preparing to complete the major repair work on the third generator after having brought forward and carried out two circuit breaker maintenance projects.
The Heocheon River Power Plant is also pushing ahead with a project to restore the optimal condition of several turbine blades (wings) after finishing the major repair project of the sixth power plant turbine generator earlier than planned.
The Changjin River Power Plant is carrying out a major repair project for the turbine generators and transformers planned for this month to increase power generation efficiency by managing water intake suitable for winter conditions.
Operations to restore the optimal performance of power generation equipment are also underway at various hydropower plants, including the Taechon and Seodusu Power Plants.
The newspaper also reported that the thermal power sector is actively carrying out the seventh unit maintenance work at the Pukchang Power Station, and power plants in Pyongyang, Suncheon, and Cheongcheon River are also working to increase power generation efficiency.
Since last year, North Korea has been doing maintenance work on power plant facilities to solve severe power shortages.
