North Korea has independently developed a new type of pressure vessel that uses fiberglass as a reinforcing agent.

The Chosun Shinbo, a Korean newspaper in Japan, announced a report from Pyongyang on the 29th that “The Building Materials Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences is producing new types of pressure vessels using resin composite materials reinforced with fiberglass.”

According to the newspaper, this pressure vessel is an essential tool with a wide range of applications, including as a pressure tank for fluid and gas supply systems in various sectors, including metal, chemical, construction, and urban management.

The pressure vessels produced by the Building Materials Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences are said to be receiving high praise from relevant units, as almost all technical indicators have reached advanced levels.

Jeon Chang-hyuk, the deputy director of the institute, played a key role in developing these pressure vessels, which are becoming monopolized by a few countries worldwide.

Deputy Director Jeon maintained a close tie with various research units within the National Academy of Sciences related to pressure vessel production and brought in scientists from the institute who specialized in various disciplines to participate in the research project during the process of establishing new pressure vessel manufacturing technology.

As a result, he came up with a mechanical device that could evenly apply fiberglass to the concrete model, which is the basic model of the pressure vessel. After four years of meticulous research, he successfully developed a control program that could ensure the accuracy of the fiberglass application process.

The newspaper added, “They achieved the result of producing a new type of pressure vessel at a high-quality level by developing a hardener on their own and sharing knowledge among them.”
