Renault 5 revived as an electric vehicle
Reinterpreting the original 5
Reflecting the latest design elements
Renault aims to target the global electric vehicle market by introducing the Renault 5, an entry-level electric compact hatchback. When consumers cannot readily purchase electric vehicles due to the burdensome prices, Renault plans to sell them at reasonable prices, raising high expectations from consumers.
Initially set to be unveiled at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show on February 26th, it was revealed earlier than planned through a leak. Although Renault 5 was discontinued in 1996, it is an iconic model that inspired several Renault models. What does the Renault 5 look like, which announced a revival as an electric vehicle?
Protruding Curved Dashboard
Apply Panoramic Display
The biggest feature is the interior inspired by the original 5. In addition, it has a unique design unique to the Renault 5, which was reborn as an electric vehicle by reflecting modern technology and the latest design language. The original Renault 5 had a protruding bottom of the rectangular dashboard, trimmed into a curved line. Like the original 5, customers can see the air ducts arranged in a square shape at both ends of the dashboard and the center fascia.
A panoramic curved display has been added to harmonize with modern technology. A hexagonal steering wheel with flat tops and bottoms was used, and a column-type transmission was selected. In the center fascia, physical buttons for operating the air conditioning system have been placed horizontally below the air duct. A generous center console between the seats provides ample storage space and a comfortable driving position.

Sharper Lamp Design
The exterior has primarily reflected the design of the concept car unveiled in 2021. At the front, the design of the headlamp was changed. The lamp graphic looks like a series of tilted pixels and has been changed to a wide square shape in the center.
On the side, it has a hatchback shape, with the rear falling close to vertical based on the high roof line. The red line from the side mirror continues along the roof to the rear spoiler. The pop-up door handle used in the concept image has been changed to the conventional handle.
15kg (33 lbs) lighter battery
400 km (250 miles) Range When Fully Charged
In addition, Renault 5 provides various functions through Renault’s technology. The multi-link rear axle, applied for the first time in a small entry-level electric vehicle, provides a more balanced ride and handling than a typical torsion beam. The weight of the car will also be reduced. It will be equipped with a 40 kWh or 52 kWh battery pack, which is more than 15 kg (33 lbs) lighter than the existing one, and can drive up to 400 km (250 miles) based on WLTP when fully charged. The price is less than 25,000 euros (about $27,000).
