Mysterious SUV spotted in South Korea
This is the Hyundai Grand Creta
Is it possible to release it in South Korea?
Recently, Hyundai SUVs such as the IONIQ 7 and the new GV70 have been frequently seen driving with camouflage. As interest in vehicles covered in camouflage has increased, a mysterious SUV has been spotted in the South Korean automobile community and is becoming a hot issue.
Due to the body size being smaller than a mid-size car, some raised suspicions that it might be a Torres Coupe being prepared by KGM (formerly Ssangyong Motor). However, given that it was captured in Ulsan, where the Hyundai factory is located, and that it has a different design from the rear lamp of the revealed Torres Coupe, it has been confirmed that it was not a Torres Coupe.
What kind of vehicle is the Grand Creta?
A Small Vehicle that Can Seat 7 People
The identity of the Mysterious SUV was the facelift model of the Grand Creta. The Grand Creta is a compact SUV developed exclusively for South Africa. It may be unfamiliar because it is not sold in South Korea, but the first generation debuted in 2022. With a length of 4,500 mm, a width of 1,790 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,760 mm, it is the most similar size to the Venue among models sold in South Korea.
The biggest feature of the Grand Creta is that it can accommodate 7 people with 3 rows of seats in a small body. This contrasts with the situation in South Korea, where third-row seats are mainly installed in mid-size or larger SUVs with a generous body size.
Two powertrains available
Applying various convenience features
The Grand Creta’s powertrain includes a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 156-horsepower gasoline engine and a 1.5-liter 113-horsepower diesel engine. According to overseas media, the facelift version may partially change the powertrain.
Convenience features of the newly debuted Grand Creta include ventilated front seats and wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other safety and driver convenience specifications are the same as those of the lower-model Creta.
In India, sold as Alcazar
Not Sold in South Korea
Meanwhile, the Grand Creta is also sold in India under “Alcazar.” It is sold in India at a reasonable price of about $ 20,000, and it is said to have been so popular that up to 10,000 units were sold a month after its launch due to its debut with an exemplary configuration at an affordable price.
The debut of the Grand Creta facelift is said to be scheduled for May or June this year. Since it is a model exclusively for South Africa, it is not planned for sale in South Korea.
