Last year’s Tucson facelift
Sportage’s facelift planned for this year
Recently released and surprising concept images spark discussions
At the end of last year, Hyundai launched the facelift model of the Tucson, the company’s compact SUV. The model initially garnered attention for its radical design, but it was underperforming compared to the Sportage that was released later. In response, Hyundai aimed to boost sales by introducing slight exterior changes, significant interior changes and enhanced optional specifications through the facelift.
Kia also plans to release the current Sportage facelift model around the second half of this year. Although no test cars have been spotted yet, design concept images are already circulating. Let’s take a look at what it might look like.
Front-end design partially adopted from the Sorento
Recently, a concept image of the Sportage facelift was revealed by Digimond Design. As no test cars have been spotted yet, it’s important to note that the design of the concept image may differ significantly from the actual vehicle. Looking at the front, the daytime running lights and vertical headlamps applied to the Sorento facelift are noticeable.
Given that these changes are also reflected in the Morning and Carnival facelifts, the change in headlamp design seems certain. The grille design is expected to change according to the altered headlamps, while the bumper design remains the same.
The rear end of the car shows significant detail changes
The side view doesn’t show much change with only the wheel design being altered.
On the other hand, the rear has undergone significant changes. The overall shape closely resembles the Sorento.
The taillights have been changed to a “D” shape, similar to the Carnival, and the license plate has been moved from the bottom of the trunk to the center. The bumper now features a skid plate, much like the Sorento, which has taken a prominent position.
What are the expected specifications and features of the Sportage facelift?
Currently, information about the Sportage facelift is scarce. However, since it’s a sibling model to the Tucson, a look at the Tucson facelift released at the end of last year can give us some predictions. The powertrain, including the 1.6 gasoline turbo, 2.0 diesel, and 1.6 gasoline turbo hybrid, will likely remain the same. The LPG option, exclusive to the Sportage, is expected to be retained due to taxi demand.
The options are expected to be enhanced to a level similar to the Tucson. The interior display, which already features a 12.3-inch instrument panel and central display, will remain the same, but ccNC will be newly applied. Additional features such as indoor fingerprint authentication, head-up display, Digital Key 2, and e-Hi-Pass are also anticipated.
