Hyundai Unveils Ioniq 5 Facelift
Focus on Product Improvement
Eye-catching Price Freeze Across All lineups
The IONIQ 5 is one of Hyundai’s flagship electric vehicles. Ioniq 5, based on the E-GMP electric vehicle platform, has the advantage of having a longer wheelbase than internal combustion engine vehicles and securing a wider interior space. It also attracted attention by being equipped with V2L, a function that allows power supply to external devices.
The IONIQ 5 has been so popular that 510,729 units were sold since its launch until last August. Last September, sales of the IONIQ 5 in the US increased by 203% compared to 2022, so the response overseas was also good. Now, the specifications of the facelift version of the IONIQ 5 have been revealed.
First impression without much change
Changes in Bumper and Wheel Design
On the 4th, Hyundai unveiled the New Ioniq 5, a facelift version of the Ioniq 5. This is a facelift model released three years after its launch in 2021. Since the existing IONIQ 5 design was highly complete, the overall design was not significantly changed.
However, if we look closely, the design of the front and rear bumpers has changed, and the designs of the standard 19-inch and 20-inch wheels have also changed. The design of the digital side mirror, which had a controversial, clunky, and angular appearance, has been refined to a streamlined shape to reduce objections. The rear window wiper, one of the complaints of existing IONIQ 5 owners, was also newly added.
Battery capacity increased to 84 kWh
Convenience functions have also been improved
The output of the New Ioniq 5 is the same as before. It generates 225 horsepower with a single motor and 320 with a dual motor. However, the battery’s capacity was changed from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh, like the battery installed in the IONIQ 5 N. Therefore, the driving range when fully charged has increased from the existing 285 miles ( 458 km) to 300 miles (485 km), which means an increase of about 15 miles (about 30 km).
As for the interior, the overall tone has been toned down to create a calm atmosphere, and the steering wheel design has been changed from the existing 2-spoke to 3-spoke. Convenience functions have also been improved. The next-generation infotainment system, ccNC (connected car navigation cockpit), has been applied, and the scope of application of OTA (over-the-air software update) has been expanded. In addition, some key functions were converted to physical buttons to improve intuitive operation.
Price Freeze Across All Trims
N Line Also Available
The New Ioniq 5 is a model that focuses on improving products overall. The battery has been changed, and various convenience functions have been added, but the prices of all trims have been frozen. Regarding the New Ioniq 5 price, the Long Range E-Lite is $39,286, the Exclusive is $40,560, and the Prestige is $44,122.
With the debut of the facelift model, the N line has also been added. This model performs similarly to the basic model but emphasizes a sporty image by applying N-line exclusive parts. It is expected to appeal to consumers burdened by the price or output of the already-debuted IONIQ 5. The price of the IONIQ 5 N Line is $47,345, and since this is the price before tax benefits are applied, the actual purchase price is expected to be lower.
