International forum Reddit users
voted for the worst car brands
and four of them belong to this brand
There are so many car brands worldwide that it is difficult to count them all. Among them, there are famous brands familiar to everyone and often have a history spanning over 100 years. With such a deep history, these brands usually possess considerable technical skills and know-how.
However, there’s no guarantee that these skills and know-how will translate into 100% consumer satisfaction. On Reddit, a forum accessed by millions daily, users voted for the car brands they never want to buy again or the worst car brands. Let’s look at the top five brands that received the most votes.
Topping the list are Chrysler and Jeep
The first brand to rank in the top tier is the American Chrysler. Many people believe the PT Cruiser significantly damaged Chrysler’s reputation. It was recommended as the car of the year upon its release by a famous car magazine. Later, however, severe issues with the electrical system, some wheels, starter motor, and gasket were reported. One user even referred to it as the Fedora of cars. Other models reportedly had severe engine problems, dashboard cracks, and clutch failures.
The second is Jeep, a renowned American SUV brand. The first reason is that most models were criticized for poor ride quality. Transmission, electrical system, sensor, sunroof issues, and low fuel efficiency were also pointed out. Lastly, they mentioned severe leakage problems. Some users interpret Jeep as an acronym for “Just Expect Every Problem” or “Just Empty Every Pocket.”
Dodge, famous for its muscle cars, and Buick, popular in China
The third one is Dodge, famous for its muscle cars and Ram trucks. According to Consumer Reports statistics, five years ago, it was listed among the top 10 most reliable car brands. However, last year, it was included in the top 10 least reliable car brands. Now, it has received negative reviews from Reddit users. Many users believe its Caliber and Nitro models do not suit Dodge’s brand image.
The fourth one is Buick, a subsidiary of GM. Although it has a positive image as a luxury brand in China, Reddit users have heavily criticized it. They cited issues with the transmission and electrical system, power steering, leakage, and the fuel gauge not accurately displaying the fuel level. Out of the five worst car brands chosen by netizens, four are American brands.
Land Rover’s bad reputation is widespread, even overseas
The last fifth is the only non-American brand, the British Land Rover/Range Rover. Their bad reputation is quite famous domestically, and the same goes for overseas. Phrases like “Land Rover owners don’t greet each other because they’ve already met at the service center this morning” originated in the U.S.
Even J.D. Power and Consumer Reports consistently rate Land Rover as a low-reliability brand.
Like domestic users, Reddit users harshly criticize its electronic devices, and some harshly criticize the engine’s reliability.
