Tesla’s Model 3 Highland Plaid: A Sneak Peek at Electrifying Performance

newautopost Views

The possibility of launching a high-performance version of the Tesla Model 3 Highland (a facelift version of Model 3) is constantly being discussed. In the case of the existing Model 3, a performance model delivered a powerful performance of 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) acceleration in 3.3 seconds. Hence, expectations are high that the new model will have similar specifications.

The new high-performance car was highly likely to be released under the name Plaid, like the Model S. According to the leaked Model 3 Highland parts catalog, the rear emblem, like the Model S Plaid, is applied to the high-performance specifications.

Carbon Sleeve Motor Mounted on Tesla Model S Plaid

Total Output of 627 Horsepower
Carbon Motor Applied?

According to the industry on the 5th, some specifications of the Tesla Model 3 Highland Performance for the Korean market have been leaked. The table, which appears to have been leaked from the Ministry of Environment’s Vehicle Emission and Noise Certification System (KENCIS), included drivetrain information, weight, and cruising range. Although it is not Plaid, it is expected to generate significantly stronger performance.

Looking at the electric motor output first, it generates 215 horsepower for the front wheels and generates 412 horsepower for the rear wheels, for a total of 627 horsepower. This figure is much higher than the 489 horsepower of the existing model. Considering that the maximum output speed of the rear motor is 8,000 rpm, it is highly likely that the Model S Plaid’s carbon sleeve motor was installed. The curb weight is 4,090 lbs, which is not much different from the existing model.

Driving 267 Miles on a Full Charge
0-62 mph in about 2 Seconds is Likely

Based on available figures, the battery capacity is 81.65 kWh, a slight improvement from the previous model (75 kWh). However, the driving range on a single full charge has decreased because the maximum output has increased. The combined range at average temperature was 267 miles, a decrease of about 31 miles from the existing one. However, the low temperature/normal temperature ratio improved to 84%, which more than meets the subsidy payment standard (70%).

Referring to the existing Model 3 Performance specifications, this new model is expected to deliver 0-62 mph acceleration in the late 2 seconds and a top speed of 162-174 mph. In addition, it is expected to be equipped with various exclusive specifications, such as seats with reinforced bolsters, dashboard and door panel differentiating elements, and sports brakes and suspension.
