Hyundai Ioniq 5
Chosen as the Best Family Car by U.S. Consumers
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been selected as the Best 5-Seater Electric SUV in the 2024 Best Family Car Awards organized by the influential U.S. media outlet Parents Magazine. The Ioniq 5 sold 33,918 units in the North American market last year, marking a 47.6% surge in sales compared to 2022.
After evaluating more than 140 vehicles, it was selected to support V2L functionality, spacious interior space, fast charging speed, and high driving range. While the Ioniq 5 has made several electric vehicle award lists, this recognition further proves its popularity as a family car domestically and abroad.
Spacious Interior Is a Plus
Creating a Comfortable Atmosphere
The Ioniq 5 is an electric vehicle with an attractive design, a reasonable price, and excellent drivability. It has recently enhanced its competitiveness by launching a partially modified model in Korea. The Ioniq 5 offers ample legroom in the second row, thanks to its 100mm longer wheelbase than the EV6, which uses the same platform. It also ensures sufficient interior space with a flat floor and high roofline. The panoramic sunroof enhances the sense of openness in the interior, making it a strong contender as a family car.
The second-row seats include a reclining feature and footrest, making it easy to relax. The center console also offers generous storage space. The console, which can move forward and backward, optimizes space utilization by positioning the wireless smartphone charging pad at the top and arranging the cup holders vertically. The trunk, which is almost vertical at the back, provides ample loading space.
301-Mile Drive Range on a Single Charge
Significantly Improved Inconvenience Issues
With the launch of the partially modified model, the battery capacity has been increased from 77.4 kWh to 84.0 kWh, extending the driving range from 284.3 miles to 301.4 miles on a single full charge. While the battery capacity has increased, the rapid charging speed has been enhanced, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes when using 350 kW ultra-fast charging.
Previous inconvenience issues, such as the difficulty of operating key features like heated seats and heated steering wheels, have been improved with physical buttons on the center console. In addition to enhancing interior convenience, the ccNC infotainment system and rear wiper have been added, and specifications such as intelligent headlamps, digital key 2, digital center mirror, built-in cam 2, and second-row remote folding have been applied to increase convenience.
What about the Power Performance?
Smooth Ride
The Ioniq 5’s powertrain comes in single-motor and dual-motor specifications, each producing 225 horsepower and 320 horsepower of maximum output and 35.7 kg-m and 61.7 kg-m of maximum torque. While some may find the power performance and driving range less impressive compared to competitors, given the price, the Ioniq 5 continues to demonstrate satisfactory performance for the price.
Furthermore, it’s perfectly suited as a family car, with a suspension setup and interior layout focused on smoothness and comfort. Launching the partially modified model has improved inconvenience issues, and the price freeze has again made it competitive. The price of the New Ioniq 5 starts at approximately USD 43,500 for the long-range E-Light trim.
