Hyundai’s large electric SUV IONIQ 9 will likely be released in the second half of this year. The new model, which is being developed based on the electric vehicle platform E-GMP, is raising expectations as it reflects the design elements of the concept car Seven.
There have been several leaks in the interior, but the exterior is still shrouded in mystery, adding to curiosity. However, a noteworthy sight was recently captured. This is how the headlamp and tail lamp work. In the case of turn signal lights, the lightened appearance is unique and attracts particular attention, but likes and dislikes tend to be quite divided. Let’s take a closer look at the details.
Pixel Design Turn Signal

Initially, the model name of the new car was likely to be ‘Ioniq 7’, as the concept car was named, but it was reported that it was changed after internal discussions at Hyundai some time ago. There was still time until the official launch, but it was postponed due to internal circumstances at Hyundai, so the prototype is close to completion. It can be seen that all lights, including various lamps, are final mass-produced parts.
The daytime running lights (DRL) have been made with a pixel design like the previously launched Ioniq series. The detachable headlamps below are also made as cube-shaped LEDs, adding to the futuristic atmosphere. In the case of the front turn signal lamp, five LEDs at the top and bottom of the DRL were blinked and operated. Unlike existing Hyundai Motor Group vehicles where the DRL in that direction turns off for a moment when the turn signal is activated, it can be seen as unique in that the DRL light amount only decreases.

No Worries About Visibility
The large tail lamps attract attention. The camouflage-covered prototype looks like an ordinary one with tail lamps on both sides. However, this is only a tiny part of what is revealed outside the camouflage. In reality, the bread-shaped LED design applied to the concept car was largely reflected. The shape that starts from the tail lamp box and surrounds the top of the tailgate is impressive.
Meanwhile, many consumer complaints were made about Hyundai Motor Group’s recently released new cars because the turn signal lights were low near the rear bumper. Even if drivers leave a sufficient distance from the vehicle behind them, it is difficult to see clearly, and there is a risk of an accident. But there is no need to worry about the Ioniq 9. The turn signal light is integrated into the tail lamp and lights up vertically for good visibility.
Digital Side Mirrors Applied
Like the previously released Ioniq series, this new vehicle is expected to offer a digital side mirror as an option. Its silhouette resembles a typical optical side mirror but creates a sleek feel. A cube-shaped LED is placed in the center of the housing to serve as a turn signal. The side mirror of the prototype in the photo appears to have been developed before the model name was changed, as it seems to have ‘IONIQ 7’ engraved on it.
