The Kia Carnival in question only had 746 miles on the odometer
Domestic consumers highly rely on Hyundai Motor Group vehicles. They offer decent performance and interior space for the price, and their abundance makes maintenance and upkeep convenient. Hence, any news from the Hyundai Motor Group naturally attracts much attention.
This time, the Kia Carnival has stirred up trouble. Less than a month after delivery, a vehicle suddenly experienced a massive leak, almost leading to a fire.
Only driven for 746 miles after delivery, already had fuel pooling on the ground
On March 25th, a user made a post titled My New Car Almost Caught Fire on an online automobile community site. The author mentioned that they had received the Carnival on March 6 and had driven it for around 746 miles since then. After driving for about an hour and a half from the airport, they parked the car at home and noticed a strong gas smell.
After inspecting the vehicle, the observer noticed diesel fuel pooling on the ground and smoke rising from the engine bay. The observer then moved the vehicle above ground and called for emergency assistance. Later, the vehicle was towed to an official Kia service center named AutoQ. The center cleaned the affected area, removing any traces of leaked fuel.
Is an engine oil coupon the only compensation? It could have led to a total loss.
However, the customer center that contacted them later said that the only compensation for the vehicle damage was a single-engine oil change coupon, and they should ask the apartment management office to clean up the diesel fuel that leaked in the underground parking lot. Despite the apparent defect in the new car, they tried to dismiss the issue without any measures to solve the problem.
The person providing the information responded angrily, saying, “I thought car fires only happened on the news; I never thought it would happen to me. I’m going to report this on the 9 o’clock news.” Fortunately, the car was loaded with diesel, so it didn’t cause a major fire. However, if gasoline had powered the car, it could have easily caught fire.
One month ago, a Kia Carnival delivered only a day prior was destroyed by fire. The vehicle was a popular hybrid model in pristine condition, without even a black box installed, drawing more attention. Due to the ongoing defects in the new Carnival, several netizens are calling for Kia to explain the cause of the incident.
