Park Yeon Mi, a North Korean defector and human rights activist who is now based in the U.S., has exposed a secret of North Korea.
On April 2, Thai media outlet Sanook reported that Park revealed Kim Jong Un’s annual tradition of selecting 25 girls to join his “Pleasure Squad.”
The primary duty of the selected girls is to do household chores at Kim Jong Un’s residence. The majority of these girls, who are also involved in sexual activity, are selected from the high schools that Kim Jong Un always chooses.
Selecting the 25 girls begins with the military checking the girls’ family backgrounds. If a relative or family member has a history of escaping from North Korea, or if they have relatives in South Korea or another country, they are immediately disqualified and punished.

The next step is a strict health examination to confirm the girls’ virginity, and it is known that they also check for physical defects like small scars.
Park Yeon Mi said, “The selected girls will be sent to Pyongyang.”
The parents agree to their daughters participating in this program to help their family out of poverty and hunger. The girls receive a monthly salary of approximately $1,800 to $3,600. When they become adults, the girls retire, and some are said to marry high-ranking officials or bodyguards.
