With the university festival season in full swing, some attendees have expressed dissatisfaction with the university festival that invited BSS (BooSeokSoon).
BSS, a subunit of Seventeen, completed its first university festival on May 29 at Hanyang University’s Erica Campus.
However, before the festival began, it was revealed that there had been conflicts in the queue involving fans of BSS who did not attend the university.
The University’s festival tickets were sold to the general public, allowing non-students to come and enjoy the event. BSS fans reportedly gathered to line up for tickets when the queue opened.
The student council had these fans line up from 2 AM and set a rule that anyone who left the line from a certain time had to go to the back, restricting bathroom breaks. This policy ultimately led to widespread complaints among the attendees.
BSS fans shared their complaints online, writing, “We can’t go to the bathroom after 7:30 in the morning while waiting in line at Erica. If we go, we’re sent to the back of the line. The main performance is at 9 PM. Are we to relieve ourselves on the Hanyang University’s precious lawn?” sparking controversy.
The post also revealed that they were unaware of excessive searches of personal belongings and body searches. They shared shocking claims such as, “They even checked our underwear” and “They felt up our pant hems.” Fans mainly protest the claim that “The student council lied, saying that BSS directly requested the searches,” tarnishing Seventeen’s reputation.
Fans who heard the news expressed mixed dissatisfaction, saying, “They don’t even do that at concerts,” “The festival’s operation method is the problem,” “Why sell tickets to outsiders if this is how it’s going to be?” and “I’m angry that Seventeen is being treated like this.”
Some responded with criticism towards the fans, saying, “This is why outsiders should be restricted from entering,” “Isn’t it natural to go to the back of the line if you leave it,” and “This is the level of idol fans.”
Hoshi, who is part of the BSS sub-unit, seemed to have heard about fans’ unfair treatment and consoled them through the fan platform Weverse by sending messages saying, “You should go to the bathroom,” and “You should drink a lot of water.”
