Frank Stronach, 91, the billionaire founder of Magna International, a Canadian auto parts company, was charged with sexual assault.
According to The Guardian and other reports, Peel regional police said in a statement that Stronach was charged with five crimes, including rape, sexual assault, and forcible confinement, on June 7.
The police report shared that Stronach committed these sexual offenses during a roughly 40-year span from the 1980s until 2023.
Constable Tyler Bell of Peel Regional Police said multiple victims were involved. However, he refused to say precisely how many, citing the need to protect the victims in light of the case’s high notoriety. They requested anyone with pertinent information or other victims to assist with the investigation.
Stronach was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court in Brampton, Ontario.
Born in Austria, Stronach founded the auto parts company Magna International in 1957 and became a billionaire by growing his company into the world’s largest auto parts company.
Stronach’s attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment but stated, “Stronach is denying all charges against him.” As a recipient of the Order of Canada in 1999, one of the highest honors for merit in the system of orders, decorations, and medals of Canada, the charges against him are even more controversial.
