① Starbucks baristas reveal shocking orders
Starbucks is a franchise loved by people worldwide. Starbucks makes drinks tailored to individual customer preferences and needs, even if they’re not on the menu. It’s a significant advantage for customers to have a drink made to their taste. However, from the barista’s perspective, who has to take these orders can be pretty challenging. In particular, some customers’ outrageous orders have sparked much discussion after baristas shared their experiences.
Starbucks baristas have revealed some of the most absurd orders they’ve received. One barista shared that a customer ordered syrup instead of coffee. In the photo shared by the barista, one can see the order for the largest size, a venti cup with seven pumps of syrup only. The barista served the customer a cup filled with various syrups, no coffee.
Another barista mentioned a customer who ordered 20 creams and 10 sugars. The barista joked that it might be cheaper for the customer to buy sugar from a grocery store, causing laughter. Starbucks has to accommodate even the most absurd requests from customers. Another customer requested 18 pumps of vanilla syrup and 18 pumps of peppermint syrup. The combination of vanilla and peppermint syrups seems to be a strange taste just by imagining it. Strangely, many customers order syrup instead of coffee.
Netizens who saw these orders reacted with comments like, “Do they even know what Starbucks is for?”, “Why not just buy syrup from the grocery store?” and “It would be easy to make if they request like this.”
② Absurd requests not on the menu
One customer ordered two eggs in a venti-size cup at Starbucks. The barista fulfilled the customer’s request by putting two eggs in a venti-size cup and writing ‘Sir eggcelot’ as the name, attracting attention. Some netizens were surprised to learn that Starbucks sells eggs.
One barista shared that a customer asked for an egg white, cooked sous-vide style, to be mixed into their drink. The barista said, “I was speechless for a while after hearing the customer’s request,” and added, “There were customers who got furious if we didn’t make it exactly like the fake drink picture they found on the internet.”
Some customers ordered even more absurd menus than eggs. Some of these looked dangerous.
One customer ordered a wasp. The customer requested a venti cup with no water and one wasp. The barista who received this order caught a wasp and put it in the cup. This caused quite a stir among netizens who saw the photo on social media.
The absurd orders Starbucks baristas have received don’t stop there. One customer ordered ice through the drive-thru at Starbucks, and the barista served only a cup full of ice. Another customer requested two pumps of agave syrup in hot water.
The barista had no choice but to fulfill the customer’s request.
One barista expressed concern for a customer’s health after seeing their order. This customer ordered 30 shots of espresso and 30 pumps of mocha syrup.
The long label indeed contained the coffee the customer ordered.
③ Starbucks’ stance on absurd orders
When a somewhat absurd order comes in, a message in the order window asks the barista to double-check with the customer.
As these absurd orders from customers continued, Starbucks released a statement. Starbucks stated, “We ask our baristas to do their best to prepare orders, regardless of their complexity.” They continued, “We strive to ensure all menu items can be made in the shortest possible time following a perfect system and recipe, but more complex drinks requested by customers may take longer.” They emphasized that they would professionally equip their baristas to meet customers’ reasonable customization requests.
Ultimately, Starbucks baristas must make and serve exactly what customers with absurd orders request.
