The world’s slimmest hotel
The world’s narrowest hotel opened in Indonesia and is creating a buzz.
CNN introduced the hotel PituRooms, located in Salatiga, central Indonesia. The PituRooms Hotel, featuring only 7 rooms, occupies a narrow building that measures only 2.8m (9.2 feet) in width. The hotel architect is Ary Indra, born and raised in Salatiga. He built up his career as an architect in Jakarta and Singapore and then returned to Indonesia to build a hotel in his hometown. The hotel built by Ary Indra is a 5-story building with 7 rooms. Traditional Indonesian art decorates each room in the hotel, named PituRooms after the Javanese word “Pitu,” which means 7.
The Salatiga area, where the hotel is located, is about 480km (298 miles) southeast of Jakarta. It is a place not well known to tourists compared to nearby Bali. Ary Indra said in an interview, “I built the building to introduce Salatiga to the world,” and expressed his wish that “I hope that through the hotel, this place will develop into a famous tourist destination. The PituRooms Hotel rooftop has a restaurant selling local food. There are also plans to host exhibitions in some open spaces.
