Song Phil-geun returns to Gag Concert
Earlier this year, comedian Song Phil-geun revealed his battle with necrotizing acute pancreatitis. He has recently shared an update on his condition.
On the 3rd of this month, Song Phil-geun will be making a comeback on KBS2’s ‘Gag Concert’ with a segment called ‘King Bajoo’.
In February, Song Phil-geun announced his illness via Instagram, stating, “I have been hospitalized for over a month due to necrotizing acute pancreatitis, a severe form of pancreatitis.”
Necrotizing pancreatitis is an acute inflammation that leads to necrosis of the pancreas, often resulting in severe left upper abdominal pain and shock. It is one of the acute abdominal diseases.
Song Phil-geun shared, “I’ve had various new experiences, like having tubes inserted through my nose and stomach, and it hasn’t been pleasant… But I’m fighting it well. After all, I have improved a lot. Inflammation levels and digestive functions…”
He further expressed his gratitude, saying, “These days, I feel that I am not alone because so many people have contacted me and prayed for me. I will never forget this!!”
In May, Song Phil-geun showed his recovery through the YouTube channel ‘Current Status Olympics’.
At that time, Song Phil-geun recalled, “The doctor said that my necrotizing pancreatitis was very severe. There were times when I was told that I was in a critical condition and that there was a high chance of getting sepsis, which has a high mortality rate. Fortunately, my body held up well.”
Song Phil-geun said, “I had seven holes drilled, and when that didn’t work, I had about a 6.7-inch incision made and washed out several times. After a major surgery that lasted about five and a half hours, I was able to be discharged about a month later. Now, the surgery is over and healed well, and I have improved a lot.”
Meanwhile, Song Phil-geun made his debut as a comedian in 2012 through the 27th KBS public recruitment.
He made a name for himself on ‘Gag Concert’ through segments like ‘Let It Be’ and ‘Nom Nom Nom’, and won the Best Newcomer Award in the comedy category at the 2014 KBS Entertainment Awards.
In November 2021, he married a bank employee four years his junior.
