① Checking Carry-On Items Before Boarding A Plane
When embarking on a trip that involves flying, packing is not always a straightforward task. This holds especially true for international or domestic flights, where authorities prohibit carrying certain items on board.
We often checked our luggage several times in case we missed something. Sometimes, even after searching for prohibited carry-on items, we might still question whether the flood of information we receive is accurate. However, there is an easy way to get precise information.
Since 2020, the Korea Airports Corporation has operated a KakaoTalk (Korean mobile messaging app) chatbot called Ask Security, enabling airline passengers to check if they can carry their belongings on board.
The corporation introduced this service to proactively reduce passenger inconvenience, responding to increased inquiries about carry-on items and the rising number of actual cases detected at airports nationwide.
Ask Security provides convenience by distinguishing between international and domestic flights.
Although the Ask Security service is a helpful feature available to everyone, many people don’t use it due to its lack of publicity.
② How to Use Ask Security
First, to use the Korea Airports Corporation’s Ask Security service, add it to your KakaoTalk friend channel. You can access the service by entering one of the following words in the KakaoTalk search window: Security Check, ID, Korea Airports Corporation, or Ask Security.
After logging in, if you enter the name of an item in the chat window, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot will answer whether it can be carried on board.
For example, if you search for batteries in the chatbot, 12 types of batteries will appear, allowing you to refine your search. It also provides additional information according to the capacity and product of the battery.
If you search for cosmetics, 14 detailed cosmetic items will appear. Selecting one of these items and searching in detail provides information on whether it can be carried in the cabin or checked in, as well as any precautions.
③ The Four Categories of Ask Security
Ask Security has a total of four categories. In addition to the previously mentioned Prohibited Carry-On Items Search, there are also categories for Security Check Procedures, Valid ID Types for Domestic Flights, and Airport and Airline Information.
Searching Security Check Procedures provides information about the documents you need to prepare, such as ID and passports, for each procedure and precautions.
Valid ID Types for Domestic Flights provide information about the necessary IDs based on being 19 years old or older. Also, it guides you about the mobile services you can use if you do not have an ID for domestic flights.
You can also check information about valid IDs for domestic flights, security check procedures, FAQs related to security checks, and information about domestic airports and major airlines.
Lastly, under the ‘Airport and Airline Information’ category, you can check information and guidelines about all the airports and major airlines in the country.
