Menstrual Cramps are as Painful as a Heart Attack Study Reveals Shocking Findings
Menstrual Pain Often Dismissed as Field of ‘Folk Remedy’
A recent study revealed that the menstrual cramps women endure every month are, in fact, as painful as a heart attack.
The Sun recently highlighted a study on menstrual pain conducted by John Guillebaud, a professor of reproductive health at University College London.
According to Professor Guillebaud’s study, menstrual pain lasts for an average of three days, and one in five women experiences severe pain that interferes with their daily lives.
Professor Guillebaud stated, “The menstrual cramps that women undergo trigger a level of pain equivalent to that of a heart attack.”
Professor Guillebaud mentioned, “Menstrual cramps are as painful as heart attacks, but research has not been conducted properly until now.”
He added that the reason for the lack of proper research and understanding of menstrual pain was that “Men do not understand the pain of menstruation, and menstrual pain has not been the focus of any studies.”
According to Professor Guillebaud, the leading cause of menstrual pain is ‘endometriosis,’ a condition where the tissues of the endometrium attach and increase in areas other than the uterus.
It is understood that if you have endometriosis, it can affect the altered muscle tissue and cause severe pain, leading to menstrual cramps.
Meanwhile, “Hysterical Strength” refers to humans’ extraordinary physical ability when facing extreme situations.
The term comes from the Greek word hystericus(uterine), as Hippocrates and his followers believed that thidition was commonly found in women and caused by a uterine disease.
