A painting recently purchased online, now dubbed the “cursed painting,” is stirring controversy.

According to The Sun on March 12, a British woman named Joy (36) bought a painting from a charity store to hang in her home for 20 pounds (about $27).

Joy claimed that hanging the painting on the wall triggered a series of bizarre occurrences. She started seeing unusual shadows and hearing inexplicable knocking sounds at night.

A potential fire hazard unfolded at Joy’s mother’s home. Her internet router overheated, emitting smoke and a burning odor. Thankfully, no fire resulted, but the incident left Joy’s mother understandably anxious.

As the unsettling events persisted after acquiring the painting, Joy, convinced it was cursed, listed it for resale on eBay.

Despite the unusual circumstances surrounding the painting, it attracted significant interest from potential buyers. Joy ultimately sold it for a remarkable £1,600 (approximately $2,160 USD), 80 times its original value.

The painting’s new owner was London Bridge Experience, a tourist attraction in London. Following its display, reports of unusual occurrences surfaced.

James, manager of the London Bridge Experience, encountered a series of unfortunate events following the acquisition of the painting. These included a car breakdown, a collarbone injury, and malfunctions with the CCTV and Wi-Fi systems.

Another employee reported seeing a strange figure in a black skirt.

Joy, the painting’s previous owner, said, “People know what they’re buying. I even described the painting in the product description.”

An elderly individual donated the painting to a Hastings charity shop. Now accompanying the artwork is a note stating, “Returned twice. Brave enough?”
