A man in China and his girlfriend became victims of a hidden camera crime after staying at a hotel to celebrate their first anniversary together.

Thai local media outlet Sanook reported on June 9 the story of the hidden camera victim living in Beijing.

Zhang stayed at a luxury hotel with his girlfriend for three days to celebrate their first anniversary.

After making love every night, the couple returned to Beijing three days later, only to be met with some unexpected news. When Zhang received a porn link from his friend, it contained a video of him and his girlfriend at the hotel they stayed at, approximately 40 minutes in length.

To Zhang’s extreme shock, the video had gone viral with 40,000 views with the number of viewers increasing in real time.

He immediately called the hotel for an explanation, but the hotel staff claimed they knew nothing and insisted their employees would never do such a thing. They promised to cooperate with Zhang to resolve the issue.

Zhang then reported the incident to the police, who traced the perpetrator through the ID of the posted video.

The police tracked down and arrested a criminal group who secretly filmed the private lives of individuals and maliciously distributed the footage for monetary gain.

The police also investigated the room where Zhang and his girlfriend had stayed. The hidden camera was found in a power socket directly across from the bed, a place not easily noticed.

The police advised, “Regular observation and changing the arrangement of items is the best method,” and added, “If illegal activities infringing on personal privacy are discovered, preserve the evidence and report it to the police promptly.”
