A 5-year-old child’s drawing of their father in honor of Father’s Day is shocking many people online.
On July 1, Sanook shared a photo of a special display celebrating Father’s Day that went viral on Japanese social media.
A Japanese supermarket displays children’s drawings every year before Father’s Day, which falls on the third Sunday in June.
One of the drawings shared online was a terrifying portrait of a 5-year-old child’s father. The portrait was drawn in red and captioned, “Thank you, Dad, for always working hard. Mom, please come back soon.”
The photo ignited a heated debate online after many people noticed a specific drawing he added to the right of the portrait.
The drawing depicted a person hanging from a rope, and many speculated that the fallen chair beneath the figure suggested a portrayal of suicide.
Online viewers expressed concern, wondering if the child who drew the picture might be a victim of abuse or attempting to send a desperate cry for help through their artwork.
“Children need help. This portrait is shocking. The child even asked their mom to come home soon,” one viewer online wrote. “Sometimes, there is a desire to escape from home. Someone could be the perpetrator. I hope the child gets help.”
The controversial drawing was reportedly removed from the display, and authorities were contacted to investigate the matter.
