China’s Attraction Hires ‘Monkey King’ – Hide in a Cave & Get Fed by Tourists

Eugene Park Views

A person donned in a golden fur mask and dressed as “Monkey King” stands in front of a small entrance to a cave that looks like a tomb, extending only the upper body or face to accept food offered by children.

This so-called Sun Wukong (the legendary Monkey King) part-time job has emerged in China, where youth unemployment has become severe.

This man’s main job at the Ojisan tourist site in Handan City, Hebei Province, China, is interacting with tourists while dressed as Sun Wukong. Two Sun Wukongs work about three hours, dividing their time between morning and afternoon. He reportedly earns a monthly salary of 6,000 yuan, equivalent to around $935.

However, the tourist site plans to hire more due to the continuous staff shortage. The reason for the shortage can be guessed by looking at Sun Wukong’s expression.
