A woman who allegedly assaulted her married lover’s spouse, suspected of infidelity, has been brought to court.
On the 21st, the legal community reported that Judge Song Ho-chul of the Busan District Court, Criminal Division 3, imposed a fine of 300,000 won (approximately $255) on Ms. A, who was accused of assault.
The incident dates back to January of last year. Ms. A was in the living room of Mr. B, a married man, and hid in the closet in the master bedroom upon hearing the sound of Mr. B’s wife, Ms. C, returning home.
Afterward, Ms. C, upon seeing Ms. A come out of the closet, suspected the two of their affair, and it turned out that she pushed Ms. A’s neck and shoulders to keep her from leaving the house.
In response, Ms. A punched Ms. C’s shoulder and pushed her with both hands. She also swung a book, causing a bruise on Ms. C’s left hand.
Due to this incident, Ms. C was diagnosed with a two-week injury.
Ms. A denied the assault during the trial, but the court refused to accept it.
The court explained that there were no contradictions in Ms. C’s statement and that the injury diagnosis issued by the hospital supports its credibility.
Mr. B, the husband, also reportedly testified during the police investigation that “when my wife kept Ms. A from leaving, Ms. A punched my wife’s shoulder several times in the living room. She also pushed her with both hands and swung a book she was holding”.
The court explained the reason for the sentence, saying, “Ms. A is a first-time offender, and the victim’s injuries are relatively minor. The circumstances that led to Ms. A’s offense are somewhat favorable to her, and the fact that she has not been forgiven is considered unfavorable in determining her sentence”.
Meanwhile, on the 19th, a woman in her 50s who murdered her unfaithful husband and wielded a weapon against her husband’s mistress was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The investigation revealed that this woman, believing her husband and mistress had ended their long-standing affair, became enraged and committed the crime after discovering that the two had met again and paid a large amount for an overseas trip.
The court explained the sentence in this case, stating, “The husband was brutally murdered, requiring severe punishment, and the defendant has not been forgiven by the victims’ families.” It also considered “the circumstances that led to the crime and the pleas for leniency from her two sons” in determining the sentence.
