A report of a 15-month-old child’s hand being bitten and severed by a zoo rabbit is causing shock and outrage.
The injured child’s family expressed their anger, claiming they did not receive a proper apology or compensation from the zoo.
Recently, a post titled “An absurd incident happened to my friend, whose baby’s hand was bitten and severed by a zoo rabbit” was uploaded to an online community.
According to the post’s author, Mr. A, his friend’s family visited the zoo with their 15-month-old child on the 2nd of last month.
Mr. A said, “My friend’s family entered an open rabbit enclosure. At the time, a staff member handed a rabbit to my friend’s child and asked them to take a photo. Suddenly, my friend’s child started crying, and it turned out that the rabbit was eating the child’s fingers.”
In the video attached by Mr. A, several rabbits surround the child, and a black rabbit is biting the child’s fingers.
Mr. A explained, “The baby’s finger was severed, and the cross-section was visible. A staff member who brought ointment said they should go to the hospital quickly. After arriving at the hospital and stopping the bleeding, doctors stitched up the wound in an emergency surgery, but the finger ended up crooked and shortened.”
He continued, “The underwriter who came to the hospital said there were no precedent cases like this, so that compensation would be difficult. In the meantime, the zoo hastily put up warning signs.”
He added, “The child is still receiving outpatient treatment. There was no single call from the zoo when the child was hospitalized. Even the representative who answered the phone hung up, saying he was busy at the airport. The hospital fee and settlement the zoo proposed later were also absurd.”
Netizens who came across this story showcased various reactions such as “This is heartbreaking. I hope the child recovers quickly without any more aftereffects”, “My heart aches thinking about the child’s hand,” “Let’s pay attention to the child instead of taking videos.”
