Architect and women’s rights activist Apameh Schönauer (39), originally from Iran, has been crowned “Miss Germany.”
According to SWR Broadcasting, on the 25th (local time), Schönauer was selected as Miss Germany at a competition held in Europa-Park in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and received the “Women’s Leader Award.”
Schönauer is a woman who immigrated to Germany with her parents at 6 and now works as an architect in Berlin. She is actively involved in social activism, including founding the women’s rights organization “Network Shirzan.” She is also a mother of two.
Schönauer said, “My mission is to encourage women, especially young women, who have an immigrant history and live in Germany, to show their best, think big, have courage, and achieve their dreams. I want to be a role model for many young girls. I want to encourage them and awaken their potential.”
Miss Germany used to select winners based on physical appearance, including a swimsuit competition, but since 2019, it has started selecting winners based on women’s responsibility and individuality. At the same time, the age limit was also removed, allowing a 42-year-old woman from Hamburg to reach the finals.
Meanwhile, Schönauer, who received the Women’s Leader Award, will be given a prize of 25,000 euros (approximately $27,000).
