A tragic accident occurred at an aquarium in China.

According to local media reports, a diver drowned within a water tank at the Haichang Aquarium in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China, during the Lunar New Year festival.

The distressing accident occurred in the Haichang Aquarium penguin exhibit, and a visitor noticed and reported the diver lying submerged.

At the time, the diver had been underwater for over 10 minutes, but bystanders mistook the diver for a mannequin and watched as the situation unfolded for over 10 minutes.

However, by the time he received help, it was too late. Despite efforts to resuscitate him with a respirator, emergency medical technicians found the diver already deceased.

The Haichang Aquarium announced that “The diver drowned.” However, the institution has refrained from disclosing further details or reasons surrounding the incident, only stating that an investigation and fact-checking are underway.

After the incident was made public online, there was a flood of criticism and mourning.
