Acroyoga Nightmare: California Woman Paralyzed After Tragic Fall – What Happened?

The Sun

The Sun shared the story of Abby Weiss, a woman who received a diagnosis of full-body paralysis after practicing acroyoga.

Weiss was passionate about staying active and often practiced acroyoga, a blend of yoga and acrobatics. During an attempt at a challenging move, she fell and sustained a spinal cord injury.

As a result, Weiss became paralyzed from the neck down, losing the ability to move her entire body. Her father shared that if he had known what acroyoga was. He would have advised her against participating.

Weiss is currently undergoing rehabilitation treatment at a medical facility in Chicago with her family.

Weiss’s family hopes she can regain some movement once the inflammation subsides, but medical professionals have indicated that recovery is not guaranteed.

In July, Weiss’s friend Renee Smith posted a GoFundMe update that she had created to cover medical expenses, sharing that Weiss’s condition had improved.

“Abby went on to breathe on her own for an entire hour!!” the fundraiser added. “While this may seem small, this is a step forward, and we need to celebrate.”

Acroyoga is a form of exercise that combines yoga and acrobatics. Unlike typical yoga practices, it involves creating movements with multiple partners.
