A tragic incident occurred when a woman in her 20s collapsed and died while working out at a gym.
According to the Daily Mail, Ariatna Lizeth Mata Esparza, a 22-year-old woman from Mexico, suddenly collapsed while performing barbell squats at a gym.
Although paramedics arrived at the scene immediately, Ariatna Lizeth Mata Esparza was pronounced dead on the spot.
A spokesperson for the local Attorney General’s Office stated that the autopsy revealed she suffered from anoxemia, a condition characterized by extremely low blood oxygen levels. It was also confirmed that she had a stroke and a blood clot.
Anoxemia occurs when there is a deficiency or reduction of oxygen in the blood, which can happen at high altitudes with low oxygen levels or due to intense physical activity.
Anoxemia can cause shortness of breath, rapid breathing, and an increased heart rate. In severe cases, it can lead to organ damage or pose a life-threatening risk.
The weight of the barbell she was lifting is unknown, but experts explain that the average adult woman can perform a single squat with approximately 70 kg (154 lbs).
Reports indicate that although it’s unclear if Ariatna Lizeth Mata Esparza had any pre-existing health conditions, she was reported to have had no known heart issues. Adding to the tragedy, it was revealed that she had recently passed the kindergarten teacher recruitment exam and was set to start her first day of work. This has deeply affected many people.
