A Chinese news platform, NetEase, reported a story about a woman named Li who faced a family crisis when she realized her son and husband’s DNA did not match.

Li, currently 29, grew up in a strictly traditional family as an only child. She met her husband after graduating college and getting hired. At the time, Li was 23, and her husband was 20. The couple married after two years of dating and welcomed their first son two years later, believing nothing could go wrong, but an unexpected event plunged their family into chaos.

They noticed their son did not resemble either Li or her husband, leading her husband to question the child’s paternity.

When their son had an accident and collapsed, her husband secretly collected a DNA sample for testing during a hospital visit.

Li was shocked and angry when she discovered he went behind her back, but the results revealed that her son was not her biological child, leaving her in disbelief.

Li’s husband immediately fainted after hearing the results. “I worked hard for the past few years for my child, but I never dreamed I was raising someone else’s kid,” he expressed.

Despite Li insisting she had not cheated, her husband refused to listen and kicked her out of their home.

Li’s understanding mother-in-law suggested that there might have been an error in the DNA testing process and advised them to retest.

The results showed that Li’s husband was the father, but not biologically.

Doctors explained that the DNA test, which used samples from her husband’s blood and sperm, indicated a case of chimerism that occurred 30 years ago.

Chimerism is also known as vanishing twin syndrome, where two genetically distinct entities merge into one.

Li’s mother-in-law was pregnant with twins with different genetic structures, but the twins merged into one, resulting in a child born with two genetic profiles.

Li explained that her son’s DNA matched that of the twin who was absorbed in the womb, to which Li’s husband was relieved and knelt to apologize.
