The story of a 13-year-old boy who had been passing blood in his urine for a week has shocked many.
The parents of a 13-year-old boy living in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, recently brought their son to Yangzhou University Affiliated Hospital.
The boy’s parents told the doctors that their son had been experiencing blood in his urine for over a week. The pediatricians suspected that the boy might have stones or foreign objects in his urethra.
However, during additional examinations, the boy refused to cooperate, making it difficult for doctors to get clear answers. This led them to conduct urine and ultrasound tests to identify the issue.
The doctor who examined the boy stated, “I was extremely shocked when I discovered several metal balls in the back of his urethra.”
Further questioning revealed that the boy had inserted over 20 magnetic balls, known as Buckyballs, into his urethra about a week earlier while playing at home.
The boy was admitted to the hospital, where emergency surgery was performed. The magnetic balls had rusted and become firmly embedded in the urethra, causing significant injuries. They were removed using a cystoscope.
After more than an hour of surgery, all the balls were successfully extracted. The boy made a full recovery and was discharged from the hospital.
The doctor who performed the surgery remarked, “Teenagers often become curious about changes in their bodies, so it’s not uncommon for them to insert foreign objects into their bladders.”
