A TikTok video showing someone using garlic as a facial treatment for acne has gone viral, sparking debate and criticism from a dermatologist.

The New York Post reported that the video “Clear Skin Hack: Garlic for Acne Relief & Clear Skin Tips” has garnered 2.6 million views. In the clip, the woman demonstrates how to peel a garlic clove and rub it on her acne-prone areas despite grimacing at the strong smell.

Viewers responded with a mix of curiosity and skepticism, commenting, “Please update us on the results. This is fascinating. If it works, it would be amazing.”

The woman later posted a follow-up video titled “Garlic Acne Hack: Day 2 Update,” which received positive feedback. Viewers observed that her acne seemed to be improving, with comments noting, “It looks like the acne is gradually calming down. It seems to be working.”

However, Dr. Ketaki Bhate, a dermatologist based in London, cautioned that “applying raw garlic to the face can cause skin irritation and inflammation.”

“Acne treatment is typically managed with prescribed medication; garlic alone cannot quickly clear acne,” she added.
