In Australia, a horrifying incident took place where a 9-month-old baby suffered burns covering over 60% of the body in an unprovoked attack.

According to the Daily Mail, in a Brisbane park, the baby’s mother was enjoying a picnic with friends when the attack occurred. A man approached and poured hot coffee from a thermos onto the baby before fleeing. Shocked by the baby’s cries, the mother quickly undressed the baby.

The baby’s condition rapidly worsened as the skin began peeling and blisters formed. A nurse in the group, Zara Mazza, placed the baby in a tub of cold water and monitored the condition until paramedics arrived.

The baby underwent emergency surgery at a children’s hospital. Medical staff reported that the baby had burns on over 60% of the body, including the face, neck, chest, and arms. They noted, “Fortunately, the condition is not life-threatening. While extended treatment will be required, recovery is possible.”

The man had no known connection to the baby’s family. In a local media interview, the baby’s mother said, “As the guardian, I failed to protect my child. It is so horrific and painful.”

A criminal psychologist speculated that the man might have acted out of hatred towards children or jealousy towards families, or he could have been seeking attention and notoriety.

The day after the incident, police released surveillance footage showing the man leaving the park. His whereabouts are now publicly sought.
