In a heartbreaking turn of events, Sanook reported a tragic story from Henan Province, China, where a groom made a devastating decision at his wedding due to an inadequate dowry.

The couple had been high school sweethearts and decided to tie the knot while still in college. During the proposal, the groom promised the bride’s family a dowry of around $28,000. However, on the big day, he was only able to gather about $26,500 despite borrowing money from friends and family.

Frustrated and upset that the full dowry hadn’t been delivered, the bride refused to get into the car and headed to the groom’s house, making her stance clear in front of all the wedding guests.

The groom, desperate to make things right, pleaded with her, promising he’d make up the difference in the future. He even asked her friends and family to intervene, but she stood firm, saying, “I will not get into the car without the dowry.”

Under the immense pressure of the situation, with so many eyes on him, the groom made the unthinkable decision to take his own life. Despite the bride’s immediate call for an ambulance, he died from excessive bleeding.

What was meant to be a joyous occasion was a tragedy for both families, as an insufficient dowry led to unimaginable heartbreak.
