The Korean national soccer team is suffering from sasaeng fans.
On the 18th, A shared several photos on various social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, claiming to have taken pictures with Son Heung-min, Hwang Hee-chan, and others.
His post included pictures of A with the players at the hotel in Doha, Qatar, where the national team is staying.
Along with the photos, A left a sexually suggestive comment, “I couldn’t see the players undressing after their workout… It’s weird, but I only saw player Kim Ji-soo.”
In addition, he continuously shared photos of the players resting at the hotel and training ground, saying, “Player wandering around the hotel, are you going to sleep? Don’t go to the gym? Don’t take the elevator? Don’t go to the lobby?”, “Player relaxing and drinking water, pull out the camera.”
Netizens criticized A for his excessive behavior.
As the controversy grew, A explained, “I realize my mistake and will be careful from now on. I will not act in a way that could be misunderstood.”
The current national team, led by Son Heung-min, Lee Kang-in, Hwang Hee-chan, Kim Min-jae, and Cho Kyu-sung, has recently increased in popularity. Still, the influx of idol fandom culture into sports has also brought the ‘sasaeng fan’ culture, causing problems.
Such behavior is a criminal act that should not be done to anyone as well as celebrities, and it is especially controversial as it can affect the condition of the national team ahead of an important game.
Some netizens have asked the Korea Football Association to take responsibility for the exposure of the accommodation.
