North Korea’s Ri Song Gum Sets New World Records in Weightlifting Triumph

The Rodong Sinmun reported on the 6th that North Korean athletes participating in the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships are winning gold medals one after another.

“Ri Song Gum competed in the women’s 49 kg category and won by lifting 95 kg in the snatch, 125 kg in the clean and jerk (both world and Asian records), and a total of 220 kg (world and Asian records), earning three gold medals,” the newspaper reported.

Kang Hyon Kyong competed in the women’s 55 kg category, lifting 104 kg in the snatch (world and Asian records), 123 kg in the clean and jerk, and 227 kg to win a gold medal.

Park Myong Jin competed in the men’s 61 kg category, successfully lifting 134 kg in the snatch, 172 kg in the clean and jerk, and 306 kg, taking first place in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total.

In the championships, which are being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, about 190 male and female athletes from more than 30 countries and regions participated.
