Hyundai and TwinVee Collaborate for AI Boats: ‘Tesla of the Seas’

HD Hyundai’s autonomous navigation specialist Avikus, has teamed up with TWIN VEE POWERCATS also known as the “Tesla of the boat industry.” The two companies are set to launch an autonomous sports boat utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).

According to industry sources on the 11th, Avikus has formed a partnership with Aquasports Boats, a subsidiary of TWIN VEE POWERCATS, to establish the world’s first recreational sports boat company equipped with autonomous navigation leisure equipment.

Both companies plan to unveil their first recreational sports boat line this summer and release additional models in the second half of the year. The boat is likely to be launched under the brand of Forza X1, an electric boat manufacturer subsidiary of TWIN VEE.

Avikus and Aquasports Boats plan to advance the recreational sports boat market by providing a new level of safety, convenience, and confidence to both new and experienced boat users, leveraging the power of AI, sensor fusion, and machine learning.

Avikus is introducing its autonomous driving solution for leisure boats, NeuBoa’t, to recreational sports boats. The NeuBoa’t technology features 360-degree situational awareness, a 3D cluster view, advanced route planning, and smart autopilot navigation that can identify objects and avoid potential collisions. It encourages new boaters to enter the market and aids existing boaters in navigation and docking.

Avikus CEO Lim Do-hyung said, “This partnership proves our joint commitment to innovation, technology, and the pursuit of excellence in the recreational boat industry,” and added, “Together with Aquasports Boats, we plan to usher in a new era of AI-assisted navigation at sea.”

Aquasports Boats, a leader in single-hull design, manufactures boat hulls.

Joseph Visconti, CEO of TWIN VEE POWERCATS and Aquasports Boats, said, “I am very pleased that Aquasports Boats is collaborating with Avikus to introduce autonomous technology at the core of recreational boats,” and added, “We are not just making boats, we are providing unforgettable experiences for our customers.”

Avikus had plans to expand its autonomous navigation solutions to the leisure boat market. Having already secured orders to equip more than 300 vessels with AI technology, Avikus has been actively developing autonomous systems for leisure boats.

Avikus is an autonomous navigation specialist startup established by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Group. It grew with full support from HD Hyundai’s CEO, Jeong Giseon. At CES 2024, it won the Innovation Awards two years in a row with its autonomous navigation solution for leisure boats (NeuBoat Navi).
