According to Yonhap News and SBS Biz on the 10th, Lee Young-hee, the head of Samsung Electronics’ Global Marketing Team, attended a CEO meeting held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, USA, on the 9th (local time).

At the CEO meeting, she stated, “There are too many lineups in Galaxy,” and “We understand that a new name is expected when there is an innovative turning point.”

Various interpretations are being made about her statement. Some insiders suggested that Samsung Electronics is internally discussing either scrapping or changing the ‘Galaxy’ brand altogether or adding a new brand to attract younger customers.

Although Samsung Electronics continues to assert its influence in the global smartphone market, the preference for Apple’s ‘iPhone’ among young customers aged 18 to 29 is becoming more noticeable, and the gap is gradually narrowing.

Rather than replacing the Galaxy name, the head of the team emphasized the importance of empathy and experience, and said that she is taking this matter ‘seriously’.

She stated, “We take the part where we can empathize and experience more seriously than the name Galaxy. We won’t apply it immediately to the new product, but we believe it should be done gradually. We will let you know once it’s internally sorted out.”
