Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Karma
Unveils New Car Gyesera
Could It Be an Alternative to Model S?
Once unrivaled in the electric car market, Tesla still maintains its prominent status. However, numerous latecomers are hot on Tesla’s heels. Luxury electric car startups Lucid and Rivian, which recently unveiled affordable models, are some of them.
Lately, the American electric vehicle manufacturer Karma Automotive has been drawing attention with its new car, which could compete with the Model S. Although it may sound unfamiliar, it was spun off from Fisker in 2014 with its own history.
Virtually a Completely Changed New Car
Wider and Lower than Model S
On the 2nd (local time), Karma Automotive celebrated its 10th anniversary by unveiling its new electric sedan, the Gyesera. This new car, revealed after the Kaveya Super Coupe showcased last year in Las Vegas, shares some of the platform and rear quarter panels with the company’s electric sedan GSe-6, but 85% of the elements have been changed.
The Gyesera’s body size is 200 inches long, 78.8 inches wide, and 52.4 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 124.4 inches. It is longer and wider but lower proportionally than the Tesla Model S. The body, weighing 5,302 pounds, is made of aluminum and carbon fiber panels on an aluminum space frame chassis.
Distinctive Interior
Pays Homage to the Old Karma
The interior is inspired by the first mass-produced model, the Fisker Karma, unveiled during the Fisker era in 2011. The dashboard layout, high-center console, and button-type gear selector are similar. Boldly breaking away from the latest trends with the center display located low has gotten bigger. It serves as an infotainment system and a control for the air conditioning system.
The center console features a smart key holder and window control buttons. The layout resembles that of the Hyundai Ioniq 6. The cup holder in the middle with a smartphone holder has built-in ambient lights, adding a touch of luxury. Karma stated, “The Gyesera will outshine even the Cadillac Celestiq or Porsche Taycan,” expressing confidence.
RWD Specifications Revealed
What Would Be the Estimated Price Range?
Karma only briefly mentioned the specifications of the Gyesera prototype that was unveiled this time. The vehicle is rear-wheel drive and is equipped with a single electric motor that delivers a maximum output of 590 horsepower and a maximum torque of 95.8 kgf.m. It completes 0-62 mph acceleration in 4.2 seconds, and its top speed is over 134.8 mph. A 120 kWh battery pack is installed, allowing it to travel over 249.7 miles on a single charge.
Karma plans to start mass-producing the Gyesera at the end of the year and produce a limited number of 2,000 units over 4-5 years. Customer deliveries will begin early next year. They are currently accepting pre-orders with a deposit of $5,000. Although the price has not yet been revealed, Automotive News expects a price range of $175,000 to $225,000.
