How much has the driving range increased?
Mercedes-Benz, the representative automaker of Germany, ambitiously launched the electric SUV model EQC in the past. However, compared to other mid-size electric SUVs, the EQC has a very short driving range, which led to consumer rejection. As a result, Mercedes-Benz officially announced the discontinuation of the EQC in May last year. However, the industry was stirred up recently with the release of spy shots of the new EQC electric model.
Despite being a high-priced vehicle exceeding $74,700, the Mercedes-Benz EQC was criticized for its lack of competitiveness due to its driving range of only 192 miles. The new EQC model seems aware of this weakness and is expected to increase its driving range slightly.
Using a sport-tuned suspension to lower the ride height
The new Mercedes-Benz EQC model, clad in camouflage, was spotted conducting a driving test in the Arctic, which became a hot topic. The vehicle was of a crossover type and was equipped with a curved front-end assembly with headlights on the sides.
Also, a flush door handle, a curved body, and a belt line that extended upwards were seen. The distinct belt line was connected to a gently sloping roof. The new Mercedes-Benz EQC uses a sport-tuned suspension to lower the ride height.
Using the EA platform of the EQE 53 SUV
617 horsepower output and 701 pound-feet of torque
The rear featured an angular rear window, a wrap-around spoiler, and temporary tail lights. Since it is a prototype, the mass-produced model is expected to have unique bumpers and diffusers. Also, the vehicle is said to be using the EA platform of the EQE 53 SUV.
The EA platform has a dual motor front-wheel drive system that generates 617 hp (460 kW / 625 PS) and 701 lb-ft (950 Nm) of torque. With this, the new EQC can accelerate to a speed of 100 km per hour in 3.4 seconds, and according to EPA estimates, it is expected to travel an estimated 235 miles (approximately 378 km) on a single charge.
Expected to be launched in 2026
Price expected to rise slightly
The new EQC is expected to be launched as early as 2025 and no later than 2026. It is currently conducting driving tests, so we can expect to meet this vehicle shortly. The new Mercedes-Benz EQC is said to be a competitor to Tesla’s Model Y. With news that the new EQC is being produced based on a custom electric car platform, consumers have already shown reactions hoping for its quick launch.
The 2021 EQC model’s price ranged from $68,895 to $77,615, depending on the trim and options. As the new EQC’s driving range is expected to increase, the price is predicted to rise slightly.
