Mercedes-Benz is one of Germany’s leading premium automobile manufacturers. Mercedes-Benz made headlines around the world by unveiling the design of its upcoming CLA electric sedan. What attracted particular attention was the grill with star-shaped lights, a design that had many likes and dislikes.
Meanwhile, news has been reported that new spy shots of the Mercedes-Benz CLA Class have been captured, and it is assumed that its launch is imminent. Mercedes-Benz unveiled the CLA concept car and announced it would launch in 2025.
Grill with star-shaped lighting
Distinctive feature of the CLA concept
Mercedes-Benz previewed the CLA class concept design in 2023. The CLA concept is a four-door coupe. For this concept, the hood was lengthened further for sportier proportions, the rear deck was shorter, and the body was intensely pomegranate red.
The CLA concept received significant attention among Mercedes-Benz concept models. Its unique grill differentiates it from the AMG SL Roadster and GT sports cars. The grille panel, the same red color as the vehicle body, had twinkling star-shaped lights, and when viewed up close, it looked like a jewel. Many people wondered whether the upcoming Mercedes CLA electric sedan would maintain the same grille revealed in the concept.
Large wheels with a brake package
Protruding active rear wing
Meanwhile, new spy shots of the CLA class electric sedan were captured. Large wheels equipped with powerful brake packages were visible. The rotors appeared to have cross-shaped holes, and an active rear wing was sticking out at the back. Detailed elements, such as the tail lamp with the Mercedes-Benz star logo, are also noticeable. This was a design feature previewed in the Concept CLA Class.
It is assumed that the CLA class electric sedan will be a front-wheel drive model. This is because the CLA class prototype tested last winter was seen kicking up snow on all four wheels whenever it accelerated from a standstill. Although the interior was not visible, it appears to have a considerable superscreen infotainment system consisting of three individual displays, including the center of the passenger seat, the front instrument panel, and a touch screen, as previewed in the concept car.
Developed and produced based on the MMA platform
First vehicle to use this platform
The newly designed CLA electric sedan and Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation vehicles will be developed and produced based on the newly created Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, which supports hybrid and electric powertrains. The CLA-Class electric sedan will be the first model based on that platform, and it is expected to be added to the compact line that Mercedes-Benz calls Entry Luxury.
The Entry Luxury group will include the new CLA Class Shooting Brake, GLA Class, and GLB Class. Mercedes-Benz did not mention what kind of battery will be installed in the CLA-class electric sedan but estimates that it will have a driving range of about 750 km (466 miles) and energy consumption of about 8.3 km per kilowatt hour. Based on this calculation, it is expected to have a battery with a capacity of approximately 89.6 kWh.
