April 5th is Arbor Day. It was a public holiday that started in 1949 to make mountainous areas a resource through tree planting, but it has now been abolished as a public holiday, making it one of the days that many people regret. However, on Arbor Day, schools and institutions still hold various events, including planting trees.
As times change, the climate crisis problem becomes more serious, and efforts are made to reduce greenhouse gases by planting trees. However, many companies show changes to suit the times, such as sustainability and ESG management. This also applies to automobile manufacturers. For this reason, the importance of Arbor Day comes to the fore again, and we have looked at representative eco-friendly vehicles that pay a lot of attention not only to eco-friendly fuel but also to materials such as interior materials.

Mini, long loved by many for its cute appearance and excellent performance, is heralding a new start by recently unveiling the new Mini Electric. In addition to the improved driving range with the electric model, something stands out: the noticeably different interior.
The Mini Electric’s dashboard and armrests are made of recycled fabric, and the texture is luxurious. The steering wheel is also accented with fabric, and the seats are also made of biskin, which replaces leather, so sustainable materials can be seen everywhere.

The IONIQ 5, a representative South Korean electric vehicle, also appears to be a car that actively utilizes eco-friendly materials. It has raised its status through the active use of eco-friendly materials such as seats made from bio-ingredients extracted from sugar cane, armrests made from materials processed from recycled transparent PET bottles, and vegetable oil used to dye sheets.
Since the early 2000s, Hyundai Motor Group has been developing eco-friendly materials to reduce the use of chemical materials. These materials have been used and applied to Kia’s Soul EV, Hyundai’s IONIQ, and NEXO. With the current IONIQ 5, they have finally been reborn as completely eco-friendly vehicles.

The last vehicle is Toyota’s Prius. Famous as the first hybrid mass-produced vehicle, the Prius is the best-selling car, with more than 5.9 million units sold worldwide. It is a representative Japanese eco-friendly vehicle with a combined fuel efficiency of 20 km per liter (47mpg). Therefore, many people do not leave out the Prius when discussing eco-friendly vehicles.
In celebration of Arbor Day, we quickly looked at vehicles that actively use sustainable materials. Many companies and manufacturers are responding to the climate crisis by making efforts to reduce greenhouse gases and reduce carbon footprints.
